"The 2020 Carbonnieux has turned out nicely, like its white counterpart, exhibiting aromas of plums, cassis and cherries mingled with hints of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, rich and gourmand, with powdery tannins and a succulent core of fruit, it's an elegant effort from this large Pessac estate."

RP 92, ALEXANDRE MA : 91-92, DECANTER : 93, MARKUS DEL MONEGO : 93.

Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest and largest wine estates in the Bordeaux region. The estate takes its name from the Carbonnieu family, who owned the property in 1234.

Its history extends over almost 8 centuries and its vineyard over a hundred hectares. The whole of this 4-generation family vineyard is located around the castle at the top of a superb gravel hill.

All the wines produced depend on the Pessac-Léognan AOP. The vines cultivated in a sustainable and eco-responsible agriculture are devoted to exclusively producing red and dry white wines, both of which are qualified as Grands Crus Classés de Graves.

There are only 6 Châteaux (Bouscaut, Chevalier, Latour-Martillac, Malartic-Lagravière, Olivier and Carbonnieux) among the 9000 wineries from the Bordeaux region that have a classification for both their red and white wines.

Chateau Carbonnieux has 47 hectares of vines for red wine grapes planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 0.5% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% Carmenere. It is one of the few Bordeaux vineyards with plantings of all 6 traditional red grape varieties.

Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks. The red wines are aged in an average of 33% new French oak barrels for 18 months.
