Chateau de Camensac, Haut Medoc 2016
Chateau de Camensac, Haut Medoc 2016
The 65-hectare vineyard of Château de Camensac is planted to 60% cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, located slightly east of the southern tip of Saint Julien appellation, not that far from Chateau Beychevelle. The terroir is mostly gravel-based soil, on gentle slopes that reach up to 23 meters. Since 2016, the property has been converting to organic farming methods.
The vinification takes place in temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation is performed in a combination of vat and barrel. The wines are aged for 17 to 20 months in French, oak barrels that range from 35% to 70% new, depending on the vintage.
On the nose: blackberry and a light floral note coming through with time. The quality of the vintage shows through on the palate, which is very harmonious and demonstrates both excellent backbone and intensity. It builds in the mouth, maintaining plenty of freshness and with a mineral-driven finish. This is an excellent Château de Camensac and represent great value for 1855 classified 5th Growth.
