Title

Made with 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, Chteau de Carles 20 hectares vineyard can be found just outside the village of Saillans, in Bordeaux right bank appellation Fronsac, just above Pomerol.

"The 2016 Chateau de Carles has a clean and precise bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit mixed with violets and iris, the oak very well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannin, blackberry and raspberry tinged with tobacco and a slightly short, but nicely detailed finish. Good potential."

WA 89-91

From the 17th century, the Chteau de Carles became a center of thought and literature: La Botie, husband of Marguerite de Carles, and her friend Montaigne, forged family ties there beyond their close friendship. The beautiful and illustrious Marquise de Boufflers, friend of Jean Jacques Rousseau, Beaumarchais and Diderot, will be the last "Lord of Carles" in the 18th century.

In 1900, the Senator of Gironde, Guillaume Chastenet de Castaing acquired Chteau de Carles for the great reputation of its wines.

Since then, the property and its vineyard have remained in the same family.

Guillaume Chastenet de Castaing was succeeded by his son Jacques, a famous historian and member of the French Academy, followed by his grandson Antoine.

Since 1983, the family winemaking adventure has continued with the fourth generation, that of Constance, daughter of Antoine, and her husband Stphane Droulers.

They undertook major works to restore the Chteau de Carles to its former glory, and modernize the operation to allow the vineyard to express the best of itself.
