Chateau Kirwan, Margaux 3rd Grand Cru Classe 2017 Magnum
Chateau Kirwan, Margaux 3rd Grand Cru Classe 2017 Magnum
Château Kirwan is a wine estate in Bordeaux owned by the Schÿler family since 1925. The Grand Vin is classified as a Third Growths in the historic Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855.
Encountering Kirwan is initially a visual experience. Its vineyard overlooks the Margaux appellation area from the plateau of Cantenac. Its lines stretch off into the distance behind the chateau until all the eye can see is an endless 37-hectare (91-acre) expanse of gravel and clay. A seasoned observer would know that these different soil types contribute to multiple layers of flavour in Kirwan wines.
The new cellar is a work of art conceived by Kinga and Anatoly Stolnikoff that contrasts pairings and disparities. Its monumental entrance features a sculpted steel arabesque entitled “Noah’s vine”. It leads to a modern, breathtakingly vast nave-like hall that towers above and joins the original buildings, housing the vathouse and cellars.
Yield : 38 Hl/Ha
Blending : 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot, 10 % Cabernet-franc, 5 % Petit Verdot
The color is an intense garnet red. A bouquet of particularly delicate aromas immediately cornes forth in the nose, strawberry, red currant and other red fruits mingling with notes of fresh pink peppercorns. The wine offers a fresh attack, the aromas continuing to develop, at once smooth, fresh and juicy. Fine tannins prolong the palote to a finale suffused with graceful notes of vanilla and toasted almonds. Subtly enchanting, this wine is an invitation to elegance. A true Margaux!
