Chateau Montrose, Saint Estephe La Dame de Montrose 2017

According to local legend, when the heather was in flower, the hillsides turned pink. In time, sailors on the Garonne river referred to the area as "Mont Rose", which gave its name to the estate.

The 95 hectares vineyard of Château Montrose is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot with vines that are on average close to 40 years of age. It has a hillside terroir of deep gravel, with sand and clay soil. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tank with frequent pump overs. The wine is aged in an average of 60% new, French oak barrels for 18 months. About 30% of the harvest is used to produce this second wine.

The 2015 La Dame de Montrose is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of black currants, black plums and black truffles with hints of dried herbs and oak. Medium-bodied, firm and with a good core of earth-laced black fruits, it finishes with good length.
