In Saint-Etienne-des-Oullières, in the heart of the Beaujolais-Villages appellation, 500 meters from the Crus of Brouilly, Alexis de Benoist cultivates 3.5 ha of vines exposed due south and planted in one piece.
Originary from Champagne, Alexis de Benoist settled in 2010 as a winemaker in his family property to reinstall the cultivation of the vine, which has been interrupted for a century, and reconnect with his history. Since then, the family has regained its title of wine operator.
Today, he cultivates 9.5 hectares of vines spread over 2 wine regions: the Mâconnais and the Beaujolais.
Anxious to preserve the environment and the quality of its wines, Alexis de Benoist chose to focus his efforts on the vine, by favoring traditional agriculture and farming methods linked to observation.
In these vineyards, from 30 to 80 years of age, the harvest is done by hand. The grapes are thus harvested healthy, mature and remain intact on arrival at the cuvage for vinification in whole clusters.
The choice of a traditional winemaking and ageing aims to keep the freshness of the fruit, while keeping structure, in order to develop an expressive, balanced and delicate wine.
