Domaine des Closiers, Saumur Champigny Cuve Expression Red 2019

100% Cabernet Franc from beautiful parcels located on the hillsides of Parnay. The limestone soil gives richness and finesse to the wine.

The grapes are entirely destemmed and sorted. It then undergoes a cold maceration before the beginning of the fermentation, for about 1 month, followed by 6 to 8 months of maturation in vats in order to refine the Cabernet Franc while keeping the fresh and fruity character of the wine. No product is added during the whole process except for small doses of SO2. 

This light bodied red wine perfectly illustrates the expression of the Saumur Champigny terroir, without any artifice, giving a fruity and juicy wine to drink on its own or pair with poultry or cold cuts. 

Domaine des Closiers is located in Parnay, in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation, in the Loire Valley. The "closiers" were the winegrowers who worked in the vineyards and who lived in the troglodyte dwellings at the foot of the hill. The estate extends over 15 hectares on clay-limestone soil with vines with an average age of 35 years. The estate has been developed for 5 generations and is today managed by Anatole de La Brosse with Pierre Derouin as Operations Manager and Loïc Yven.

The vineyard obtained the High Environmental Value (HVE 3) label in 2017 thanks to the attention paid to the development of biodiversity. The estate has also begun its conversion to organic farming with the assistance of Michel Chevré, technical consultant for the estate and operator of the Clos de l'Écotard.
