Jean Vesselle's Le Petit Clos 2010 is a distinguished Blanc de Noirs Champagne crafted exclusively from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. The grapes originate from a unique, enclosed vineyard known as "Petit Clos," situated in the heart of the Vesselle estate in Bouzy, a Grand Cru village in the Montagne de Reims region.
The Petit Clos vineyard spans a micro-parcel of approximately 0.08 hectares (800 square meters) and is home to old vines averaging over 70 years of age. This venerable age contributes to the wine's depth and complexity.
In terms of vinification, Le Petit Clos 2010 is both fermented and matured in Champagne barrels, a practice that enhances its rich flavor profile. The Champagne undergoes an extended maturation period, spending a minimum of 10 years aging before release. Notably, this cuvée does not undergo malolactic fermentation, a deliberate choice to preserve its natural acidity and freshness.
The dosage for Le Petit Clos 2010 is classified as Extra-Brut, with a sugar content between 3 and 4 grams per liter, achieved using grape sugar. This low dosage allows the purity and character of the Pinot Noir to shine through, offering a Champagne that is both intense and complex, with notes of candied fruit and roasted almonds.
Jean Vesselle's Le Petit Clos 2010 was disgorged in April 2023. This limited-edition Champagne had a production run of 630 bottles, highlighting its exclusivity.
